On July 29th, early morning of 2024, our 20-year-old daughter and angel #Lillyfoschino, passed away peacefully in my arms. She became weaker overnight and became unable to walk within hours on the last Sunday evening; she rejected food for the first time in her life. She ate exceptionally well through her youth, mature, and elderly phase, but things changed within hours last Sunday. As Lilly got weaker, Her dad and I laid her down in the bed and held her with her favorite blankets throughout the entire night, kissing and holding her. Lilly was breathing and making little barks and noises. At one point, I realized that she needed to know that it was ok if she wanted to leave us and that we would be ok. As I started praying and telling Lilly it was ok, the power went out of nowhere, and when the power came back, I noticed Lilly was departing her physical body.   Russian Illegal Invasion in Ukraine  First, let me introduce myself to you. My name is Iara, and I recently turned 50 years old. I was born in Brazil and raised by artists in the field of Photography, visual arts, and acting. I grew up surrounded by Anti-USA sentiments from actors and writers who dealt with censorship and torture during the Brazilian dictatorship from 1964-1885. I was 37 going on 38, and Lilly was 6 years old. It feels like we are aging together. Being Lilly’s bestie  all of this time, has taught me how people perceive animals. When I first brought Lilly home, some trought I purchased some and asked the price, but they were disappointed to find out that she was rescued with her mother by my cousin who is a vet. Lilly was in an old barn in the middle of nowhere in a serious hoarding condition.   Besides what happens on my surroundings, I have a few thoughts to share with you on the events from 2022 : What shook my soul this year was the illegal invasion of Ukraine by Russia on February 24th, which led me to follow details on the horror Ukrainians are going through and surrounded myself with new contacts from locals dealing with the war between Russia and Ukraine, scholars/ journalists specialize on Eastern Europe affairs on line. I also became familiar with the remarkable animal shelters and sanctuaries in Ukraine which I asked you to keep in mind and also all Ukrainians and refugees from all countries during this winter.This year was the year that I realized that democracy was way more important then I thought it was. A few months ago local animal activists sent me an invitation to join them in a protest against the deadly cruel Horse racing in the Meadowlands Horse racing track in  Rutherford New New Jersey. It has been an interest of me to end such a cruel business for years, however, I Wasnt aware of how I could do that until the animal activist in New Jersey. Brando Lee sent me the invitation and further details. That day I met with other activists briefly, activists that have been finding ways to expose the horror towards horses in the Horse racing tracks. I was quite inspired by all of them I gathered more details all thanks to my home state New Jersey animal activists.
